LRCA Counselling Program

Volunteers are always needed so that we may expand this much needed program.

The Counselling Program at the Ladysmith Resources Centre is a free program for those who cannot afford to pay for counsellors privately or do not qualify or have extended health services. This is a volunteer counselling program under the direction of John Parker M.A BCC.

Our counsellors come to this program to volunteer their time with a variety of backgrounds, but no matter whether he/she has a Masters degree in the counselling field or a life time experience of helping others, all are expected to be part of our training sessions (48 hours +) and will have had a clinical practicum (through their educational program) or take the Level I and Level II Counselling Program through Vancouver Island University.

Since the next training program at VIU begins mid-September 2010, anyone willing to give time to their community in this way should contact John Parker at the Resources Centre as soon as possible.

This match is made based on the experience and training of the counsellor and the issues that the client is presenting with.

Treatment/therapy/counselling can be anywhere from one session up to 12 + sessions depending on the presenting issues. Patients that would be appropriate for this program would be motivated to seek help with such challenges as:

Referrals come from community doctors, mental health specialists and other service providers. We also accept self-referrals. Counsellors volunteering form the program come from Duncan up to Nanaimo. Clients receiving our services must be from the Ladysmith area only.

If you would like to become a counsellor or think that you could benefit from our services please call Ladysmith Resource Center at 245-3079 and ask for the counselling program.
